Existence

By Sonythebooklover

Death falling in love with a human is not an original idea there have been books, and movies e.g. Meet Joe Black. Still Abbi managed to give the story originality despite similarities to another book I will be mentioning quite a bit.  As I read this story I couldn’t help the comparison to Twilight, the references were glaring. First Edward and Dank separated at birth personalities, Pagan’s and Bella’s mirror-like reactions to being obsessed with an immortal man and their violent reactions when it ends abruptly. Down to holding herself together when ever she thought of the pain of losing him, sounds familiar. Both are in over their heads in circumstances they don’t understand. Once you get past the Twilight echoes the story is compelling when it gets going. This is a story about forbidden love and what you’re willing to do to protect it sounds cheesy I know but cheesy is good on occasion. The characters were typical and the writing wasn’t Shakespeare but Abbi Glines is a good writer because despite all the Twilight echoes the story had its own originality from the lead character seeing ghosts to the mythology of death-souls and deities. Held me captive right to the ending with the cliffhanger revelation. Which sold me on the second book being released in April. Predestined, I believe will be better with new characters, new revelations, and Pagan’s quest to become immortal to be with Dank forever.

Existence premise was really intriguing to me it took the idea of death and gave humanity to it. In the form of Dank Walker. Side note the names of the leads are god awful Dank couldn’t come up with a better name. Reminds me of adult film star or something. I mean the way this guy is describe as handsome as all get. Dank is not a name that helps me picture that, okay sorry for the rant but I really hated the name. Another thing I didn’t like  I felt the synopsis gave away too much. The fact that we the reader know Dank is death (even though it was the reason I bought the book) while Pagan struggles desperately to figure out who Dank really is (there goes that name again sounds so funny to repeat). Gets tedious  after a while I just wanted to yell at her are you stupid.  Basically knowing before Pagan  figures it out instead of discovering the same time as she did. Became a double edge sword even though ultimately it was what made me decide to buy the book. Recommendations If you’re a Twilight fan, into paranormal romances you will love this book I gave it a three and half stars out of five because of the Twilight echoes even though the writing wasn’t Shakespeare it was entertaining.

What happens when you’re stalked by Death? You fall in love with him, of course. Pagan Moore doesn’t cheat Death, but instead, falls in love with him. Seventeen year old Pagan Moore has seen souls her entire life. Once she realized the strangers she often saw walking through walls were not visible to anyone else, she started ignoring them. If she didn’t let them know she could see them, then they left her alone. Until she stepped out of her car the first day of school and saw an incredibly sexy guy lounging on a picnic table, watching her with an amused smirk on his face. Problem is, she knows he’s dead.

Not only does he not go away when she ignores him, but he does something none of the others have ever done. He speaks. Pagan is fascinated by the soul. What she doesn’t realize is that her appointed time to die is drawing near and the wickedly beautiful soul she is falling in love with is not a soul at all.  He is Death and he’s about to break all the rules.
